Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Environment Agency (EAD) has announced Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) as the official partner in its mangrove conservation initiative.
TAQA will serve as the main sponsor of the project for the next two years, supporting the implementation of the agency’s mangrove biodiversity monitoring program.
The initiative will utilise artificial intelligence, advanced technology, and modern ecological monitoring tools to study biodiversity within the natural mangrove habitat.
As part of the project, TAQA will also support the development of MANTA (Mangrove Nature Tracking Assistant), a digital system designed to monitor biodiversity in mangrove ecosystems. The project is considered the first of its kind in the Arabian Gulf region.
The program aims to study and analyse biodiversity within mangrove habitats, with particular focus on key species such as fish and crabs, which serve as important indicators of ecosystem health and stability.
The initiative will also help measure the success of ongoing habitat restoration efforts.
TAQA had also sponsored the Marine Turtle Festival 2025 organised by the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency.
According to Maitha Mohammed Al Hameli, Director of the Marine Biodiversity Department at EAD, the partnership represents an important step in protecting mangrove ecosystems in Abu Dhabi.
Noel Oun, Group Chief Strategy Officer of TAQA, said the company is proud to support Abu Dhabi’s mangrove initiatives as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.
