Lucknow, April 1, 2026: Rishabh Pant endured a disappointing outing in the Indian Premier League after being run out in an unfortunate manner during Lucknow Super Giants’ match against Delhi Capitals.
Opening the innings in a surprising move, Pant began positively by hitting a boundary in the first over. However, his innings was cut short at just seven runs off nine balls following a dramatic run-out in the third over. The incident occurred when Mitchell Marsh struck a delivery from Mukesh Kumar straight back towards the bowler. The ball deflected off Mukesh’s hand and went on to hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end, catching Pant outside his crease.
Pant appeared visibly confused by the sudden turn of events and walked back to the dugout in frustration. Visuals later showed the Lucknow captain expressing his disappointment after the unexpected dismissal.
The early wicket triggered a collapse in the Lucknow batting lineup. Aiden Markram, Ayush Badoni, and Nicholas Pooran all fell cheaply, leaving the team struggling at 71 for five. Despite a fighting effort from Abdul Samad, who top-scored with 36 off 25 balls, Lucknow Super Giants were bowled out for 141 in 18.4 overs.
Having made a steady start in the powerplay with 48 runs for the loss of two wickets, Lucknow’s innings quickly unraveled under pressure. Pant’s early dismissal proved to be a turning point, as the team failed to recover from the setback in a crucial match.
The performance is seen as a setback for Pant, who is aiming to regain his place in India’s T20 setup, making his IPL form particularly significant this season.
