Tehran: Iran has alleged that a US airstrike at Mashhad International Airport destroyed a civilian aircraft bound for India, according to reports citing Iranian sources. The incident is said to have taken place late Monday night during an aerial attack at the airport.
The aircraft, operated by Mahan Air, was reportedly preparing to depart for New Delhi carrying medicines and medical supplies as part of a humanitarian mission. Iranian officials stated that the aircraft was loaded with aid sourced from multiple countries.
There has been no official response from the United States regarding the incident. However, Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a “war crime” and a clear violation of international law.
Iran’s mission in India also stated that targeting a civilian aircraft violates international aviation regulations and humanitarian principles. Authorities pointed to global conventions that prohibit attacks on civilian objects, including aircraft used for humanitarian purposes.
Iran has called on international organizations to conduct an immediate investigation into the incident, bring those responsible to justice, and ensure stronger safeguards for civil aviation in conflict zones.
