Residents of Al Shamkhah can now enjoy 16 newly opened public parks, as the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) expands neighbourhood green spaces across the capital to enhance urban liveability and community well-being.
The parks are strategically located across residential areas and cater to families, children, and fitness enthusiasts of all ages. Facilities include landscaped lawns, eight outdoor fitness zones, 25 sports courts, and 26 inclusive children’s play areas. Walking tracks, shaded seating areas, and community spaces have also been integrated to promote daily recreation and social interaction.
Eng Khalifa Abdulla Alqemzi, Head of Capital Projects Execution – Abu Dhabi at DMT, said the parks were designed to enrich residents’ quality of life by offering safe, welcoming spaces for relaxation and outdoor activities. He added that the initiative aligns with the UAE’s Year of Community, aiming to strengthen social bonds and foster a sense of belonging among residents.
The Al Shamkhah parks form part of a wider programme to expand public amenities across Abu Dhabi. Similar community parks have recently been developed in Al Falah and Mohammed bin Zayed City, reflecting DMT’s ongoing focus on creating integrated neighbourhoods that support active lifestyles and improve everyday living in the emirate.
