Minecraft has officially rolled out its final update of the year — the “Mounts of Mayhem” release — bringing a host of new weapons, creatures, and mounted combat mechanics to both Minecraft: Bedrock Edition and Minecraft: Java Edition. The update also marks the end of this year’s competitive Mayhem Tournament.
What’s New in the ‘Mounts of Mayhem’ Update
The highlight of the update is the introduction of an all-new weapon: the Spear, complete with a full crafting progression across every major tier. Players can now forge spears using wood, stone, copper, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite, making it as versatile as swords and axes in the existing arsenal.
The spear features two unique attack modes:
• Jab Attack: A fast close-range stab, perfect for tight encounters.
• Charge Attack: A powerful, speed-based strike designed for mounted combat and jousting. Damage increases with velocity, making it extremely potent when attacking from horseback.
Alongside the new weapon, the update introduces a unique underwater mount: the Nautilus. Inspired by the in-game nautilus shell, this creature can be tamed and ridden underwater. It lets players move faster than swimming alone and maintains the rider’s air supply, making long underwater explorations far easier.
Developers say the update is designed to enrich Minecraft’s core gameplay for players who enjoy mounts, movement mechanics, weapon experimentation, and joust-style combat.
The “Mounts of Mayhem” update (version 1.21.130) is now being rolled out globally to all supported platforms. While some players had early access via beta and preview versions, the full official release is now live for everyone.
