Veteran writer M. Mukundan asserted that the people of Kerala are looking forward to a third consecutive term for the state’s progressive front, emphasizing that democratic authority ultimately rests with the people.
He was speaking at the closing ceremony of Orma Literature Fest 2026, held on February 15 at Hampton International School in Dubai.
Mukundan noted that in the current political climate marked by unprecedented polarization, continuity in progressive governance is essential for Kerala’s development. He expressed confidence that public sentiment strongly favors sustained governance and that democratic processes would reflect that will.
Chief guest Karivellur Murali criticized the argument that governments must change strictly on a rotational basis. He described such views as contrary to democratic principles, stating that governance should be determined by the sovereign will of the people rather than by arbitrary notions of political alternation.
The event also featured prominent speakers including writer P. N. Gopikrishnan and poet Muse Mary George. During the ceremony, the ‘Orma–Bose Kuncheri Literary Awards’ were presented.
The two-day festival, held on February 14 and 15, witnessed active participation from expatriate Malayalam writers and cultural figures across the UAE. The closing session was presided over by Orma President Noufal Pattambi. Speeches were delivered by N.K. Kunhahammed, Director of Pravasi Welfare Fund and member of Loka Kerala Sabha, and OLF General Convener Pradeep Thoppil.
