In a move that has stunned Bollywood and devastated millions of fans, Arijit Singh, one of Hindi cinema’s most beloved playback singers, has announced that he is retiring from singing in films. The singer made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), stating that he will no longer take on new assignments as a playback vocalist.
“Hello and happy new year to everyone. I want to thank you for giving me so much love over the years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not going to take any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. It was a wonderful journey,” Arijit wrote in a heartfelt message.
For over a decade, Arijit Singh’s voice defined modern Bollywood romance. From soul-stirring love ballads to songs soaked in heartbreak, his music became the emotional backbone of Hindi cinema. Iconic tracks such as Tum Hi Ho, Channa Mereya, Raabta, Agar Tum Saath Ho, and countless others didn’t just dominate charts—they became part of people’s lives.
Arijit’s journey was not without challenges. His widely reported fallout with actor Salman Khan following an awards show once cast a shadow over his career, limiting his presence in several big-budget films. Yet, his sheer talent and audience loyalty ensured his voice remained inescapable.
What makes his decision resonate deeply is its humility. Arijit clarified that while he is stepping away from playback singing, he is not quitting music. Instead, he plans to focus on learning, creating independently, and exploring music beyond the film industry.
While fans mourn the end of an era in Bollywood music, many believe this is not a goodbye—but the beginning of a more personal and artistically free chapter for the singer who taught a generation how love sounds.
