Muscat: Two Malayalis have tragically lost their lives in flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall in Oman. The victims were reportedly caught in the surging waters of an overflowing wadi (seasonal riverbed) during the intense downpour that has lashed several parts of the country.
Oman has been experiencing severe weather conditions over the past few days, leading to widespread flooding in low-lying areas and disrupting normal life. Authorities, including the Royal Oman Police, had previously issued warnings to residents and travelers to avoid crossing wadis and to stay indoors during the heavy rains.
The identities of the deceased have been confirmed, and their families back in Kerala have been informed of the tragedy. Efforts are currently underway by community volunteers and embassy officials to complete the necessary formalities and repatriate the mortal remains to Kerala.
The unexpected demise of the expatriates has cast a pall of gloom over the Malayali community in the Sultanate.
